Julius Tart Optical

Julius Tart created some of the most iconic frames when he started his brand in New York in  the 1940s. Often found in local opticals, frames were meant to be fitted with the customer’s prescription lenses. Later on, their signature frames were immortalised by film icons like James Dean. In 2016, Tommy O’ Gara of The Light Co. partnered with Julius Tart’s nephew Richard Tart and recreated the iconic frames using inherited archival material as design reference to bring back the Julius Tart Optical brand back to life. Today, the frames are made in Japan with premium cellulose based acetate and still uses functional barrel hinge construction which makes these frames hard wearing.
